Discarded objects serve as canvases on which I use subtractive processes to re-create narratives of their previous lives. My work fills in the gaps of decay, exposing the nostalgia of objects through recontextualizing their abandonment.. Decay is seen as a sign of our ‘underdevelopment’, the ‘new’ is associated with progress. My work aims at representing alternatives to development by excavating the beauty of forgotten materials. Taken as a whole, my work emphasizes the multiple ways in which everyday artifacts are displaced, circulated, and increasingly intermingled. In this most recent body of work I use acrylic as an excavating tool, on found objects. Walls and doors, I treat as archeological artifacts on which I excavate the different layers of paint, revealing the past states of the object and revealing the evolution of its aesthetic over time.
